Today this is my work with emotion and yoga for grieving:
- To sit with emotion and to allow their riptide to move through
- To be present with this experience of grief, sorrow, disbelief, despair and disgust
- Recognize in this, the invitation to bear witness
- To be ok with this storm of emotion and to take it all in.
Firstly, in this pause after what I can only see as a deep tragedy, there is space. There is space to begin to see things more as they really are, space to shed some of my falsely held beliefs and space to open up to new ways of showing up in the world.
Yoga for Grieving On the Mat
Secondly, in our yoga practice on the mat, sensation is a fundamental tool we use to call our mind into present moment. If we are not listening the sensation will often shout louder and louder until it transforms into pain. Our communities are shouting now! We are all shouting now. It’s time to WAKE UP! Let’s use the gift of the pain we feel today as the catalyst to cultivate a deeper, more compassionate presence. Also, let us do so with those around us, to make more conscious choices. Additionally, let us do so to find ways to take action that bring greater healing into our own lives, our communities and our political structures. Lastly, from a space of mindful presence and a heartfelt wish for all beings everywhere to find health, ease and wellbeing. May Yoga for Grieving bring you relief.
